We read every message
Found a bug, spotted an error in a question, or just have a question about how the app works? Email us — we read everything and reply as soon as we can.
For a mistake in a specific question, use Report this question from within the quiz screen instead — it pre-fills the question's ID and legal reference for you. For anything else, write to us directly and mention the topic or scope (e.g. “Federal — Right of way”) so we can find what you mean quickly.

How do I practice by topic?
From the home screen, tap Practice by topic. Pick a scope — Federal (BSV) for the core rules that apply everywhere, or Special waters for the extra rules on Lake Constance, Lake Geneva, the Rhine near Basel, or Lago Maggiore / Lago di Lugano — then check off one or more topics with the topic checkboxes and start.
How does the mock exam work?
Tap Mock exam on the home screen for a randomized, timed set of 60 questions in the official format: 50 minutes on the clock, 75% required to pass. If time runs out, the exam ends automatically and your result is still recorded, unanswered questions included.
What is "My weak points"?
It's a shortcut that reloads the questions you most recently answered incorrectly, so you can drill exactly what's tripping you up. A question drops off the list the moment you answer it correctly again — no need to manage it by hand.
Do I need an account? Is my progress saved?
No sign-in, ever. Your practice accuracy, quiz history, and settings are saved locally on your device only, so they're there the next time you open the app — but they don't sync between devices, since there's no account or server to sync through. See Your data for details.
Does the app work without an internet connection?
Yes, fully. Every question, image, and diagram ships bundled inside the app, so you can study or sit the mock exam on a boat, in a tunnel, or anywhere else off the grid.
How do I reset my progress?
Open Settings (the gear icon) and tap Reset progress. This permanently clears your saved accuracy stats and quiz history on this device — it can't be undone, so make sure that's what you want first.
Can I change the app's language?
Yes — tap the language code (EN / DE / FR / IT) at the top of the home screen and pick a language. Every question, explanation, and legal citation is written and reviewed in all four languages, not machine-translated on the fly.
Is this an official VKS or Schifffahrtsamt app?
No. SwissBoat Study is an independent study aid built from the public legal texts (the BSV and the relevant special-waters agreements) — it isn't affiliated with any cantonal shipping authority or the VKS, and it doesn't reproduce their proprietary exam catalog. Even the official catalog holds back roughly 20% of real exam questions, so always treat this as preparation, not a guarantee.
Your data
Nothing to delete, because nothing left your device
SwissBoat Study has no sign-in and no backend, so there's no remote account for us to delete on your behalf. Everything the app remembers — topic accuracy, quiz history, weak points, language, theme — lives in your device's own local storage, and only there.
To clear it, pick either:
- Reset in the app — Settings → Reset progress → Confirm. Wipes your stats and quiz history immediately, on this device.
- Uninstall the app — removes every trace instantly, same as any other app on your phone.
No email required, and no 30-day wait — since we never held a copy to begin with.
Privacy policy
How SwissBoat Study handles data
Nothing that identifies you. There's no account, no analytics SDK, and no crash reporter phoning home. Your practice accuracy and quiz history are written to local storage on your own device and never transmitted anywhere by the app.
Solely to show your own progress back to you — the per-topic accuracy on My progress and the questions on My weak points — computed and displayed entirely on your device.
None by default. The app can optionally sync newer question text or images from a Dropbox folder we control, but this is switched off out of the box; even when it's on, it only downloads quiz content — it never uploads anything about you or your device.
Since nothing leaves your device, there's nothing stored on our end to request, export, or delete — Settings → Reset progress (or uninstalling the app) does that instantly yourself. Questions about this policy? Email soaresmp@gmail.com.
